Mansonia wood plank, dry, planed and squared. Manually selected.
African hardwood with dark brown color and variations between gray and soft yellow. The color tends to lighten with exposure to light. The grain is straight and the texture is between soft and medium.
It is very easy to work with and does not present any problems with finishes or gluing.
It is used for the manufacture of furniture, plates, boats and lathe. It is very resistant to fungi and insects, so it is frequently used outdoors.
Due to its color and appearance similar to black walnut, it is sometimes used as a lower cost substitute.
Sawdust is especially irritating. It is highly recommended to use a P3 mask and adequate protection when working on it. Splinters tend to cause infections. Some parts of the tree have alkaloid compounds similar to those of oleander, so contact with food should be avoided (making trays, cutlery, etc.).
