Dried Poplar wood plank, planed and squared. Manually selected.
Wood widely used in North America, cream-white in color, sometimes with green or gray lines.
It is soft and very easy to work with, although it is necessary to use finer grain sandpaper than with other woods to achieve smooth surfaces. It accepts gluing and all kinds of finishes without problems.
Like other cheap and fast-growing woods, it is mainly used for industry, manufacturing pallets, paper or plywood. However, it can be used without problems for the manufacture of furniture and other applications, as long as they do not require particularly hard wood.
Although the most common name is “poplar”, it does not belong to the genus Populus (to which aspen wood belongs, for example), but to Liriodendron. The name in Spanish "tree of tulips" defines it very accurately, referring to the large yellow and orange flowers that the tree presents.
