Dark-colored wood with really beautiful tonality and grain. It is often used in conjunction with lighter colored woods, such as hard maple or cherry, for beautiful contrasts. Highly appreciated for furniture, boxes, lathe and carving, but also for floors and firearm stocks.

It is a medium weight wood and somewhat softer to work with than other deciduous trees such as oak. The texture is fine and very pleasant to the touch.

It works easily and is very grateful for the finishes, especially with simple options such as linseed oil that help highlight the grain without modifying its tone and texture.

Originally from North America, it is sometimes sold vaporized to match the color of the sapwood and heartwood, although the one we select at Contraveta is not vaporized.
