Basswood is the most used for carving, although it is also used for turning and making boxes and similar pieces.

It is a light wood that is very easy to work with, with a smooth texture and that accepts almost any finish very well. In contrast, the texture and color of the wood are very uniform, with almost no visible grain, with little interest.

Despite its lightness, it is a resistant wood, frequently used to make windows and shutters. In the Middle Ages it was used in Europe as a material for shields, due to its unbeatable balance between weight and resistance.
