Light and uniform yellow-brown colored wood, with a clear and straight grain. The appearance is similar to samba wood.

Koto wood is of medium hardness, easy to work with, glue and has no problems with finishes. If it is used to make furniture, movement with changes in humidity must be taken into account, which is similar to that of wood such as red beech.

It is frequently used in the manufacture of veneers and furniture, although it is also one of the most used woods to make table tennis blades.
