Wood that is especially soft and easy to work with, although very sharp tools must be used because it has a certain tendency to lift the grain.

The color is usually brownish-reddish, sometimes slightly yellow.

It is commonly used in rustic furniture, turning, carving, toys and musical instruments.

Alder wood is usually recommended for beginners in manual woodworking, because it is so easy to work with and at the same time somewhat demanding when it comes to sharpening.
