Purple-brown wood, very uniform, with little visible grain.

Color is the most popular characteristic of this wood, although it is important to note that it changes over time. After cutting or brushing it is dark brown to purple in color, which becomes redder and stronger with exposure to light and air. However, over time it becomes duller and ends up being almost entirely dark brown.

It's hard and heavy, and difficult to machine if it gets hot from the blades.

Resists well to insects and rot.
